Sanitising gel or liquid can be useful when changing nappies in situations where it's not possible to wash your hands. It contains alcohol or other ingredients that will effectively kill bacteria. The level of alcohol varies between 60% to 85% (at least 60% alcohol is required for it to be effective).

Hand alcohol should be thoroughly rubbed into the hands and wrists and allowed to air dry. Ensure that no surfaces are missed: around the nails, between the fingers and on the thumb are places that are often missed.
